? about right neck pain (Trapezius muscle). Iv just started playing in a band...we play 3 hours at a time 3 or 4 days a week, ive been a couch doodler for almost 10 years...so its my first time playing standing and my neck is just all jacked...wicked tension...it's really annoying that something i like doing so much causes me pain....is it a common issue, i try to relax when i play and dont feel it till the next day...it sucks ass, what to do .

That's quite a bit of playing! If you just started on that schedule, it'll take a while to get adjusted to that weight.

How heavy is your bass? What kind of strap do you use?

I had a serious "issue" with my P-bass - it was "neck-dive" that made my back hurt, my neck sore and me overly tired from trying to hoist my left shoulder up to compensate.

The answer was to get an Ibanez SR500.

I tried thicker - padded - and higher priced straps. Not good enough.

Now I don't advocate tossing a heavy-headed bass into the trash - but using the Ibanez more often - or most of the time has proven to me that a P-bass is just too damned heavy for casual, smaller and returning bassists to handle for hours of standing gigs.

I'm 63.9 Y/O, 5' 10" and about 203 lbs, so I'm not small but AM not used to those hours standing.
