After reading the forum about the p/b vs the j/b, it reminded me of an interesting encounter I experienced. I have an original Stingray factory stamped Feb. 1976 on the neck and body. I was in a local music store in 2006 and the tech was giving me my bass back from a tweaking. Two Sales Reps from MMErieBall looked at my SRB and laughed, stating it was outdated with the 2 Band EQs being only bass and treble. I told them to pick one one their Finest Sterling Basses and let's see. We let the tech play the new Sterling first; then he played my 76 SRB. We had a captive audience in the store that agreed the 76 had more crisp highs and bottom lows and out shined the Sterling. The Sales Reps could no longer back up their laughter. "Just wanted to make the point of, just because it is older doesn't mean it doesn't sound as good or better." Remember SRV's #1 Guitar, 1958 neck, 1962 body? |
