Hey guys.

I used to play guitar and still do; I made the choice to switch to bass because there are too many guitarists in my town. I also figured I'd have more control over a band if I played bass, which is something I'd want due to the quality of musicianship in my town.

I come from a musical family. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. For a while, I tried to deny the music inside of me, but I guess it just can't be...it's in my blood, y'know? I grew up listening to a lot of calypso, and Carribean music (as my parents were from there) and i guess that has really made me who I am, along with my mother being a pianist.

Music's natural to me, but playing with people isn't - mainly because i haven't found the right people yet, I suppose. I've found some people who are technically very good at what they do - but I don't like the music they make. Then, I've also found people who don't know music and can't play their instrument. I've found even less people who have a grasp on music, but don't play. As for someone who has both...well, I'm still looking. (I don't fall into that category either. Gotta practice more. )

I gave up guitar primarily because I don't like the stereotype associated with it - electric guitars are known for their distortion, which is an effect I don't like all that much. Used sparingly, it's awesome. But crank the gain way up until the feedback howls, and start playing blazing fast riffs...not many people can get away with that, and even when they can do it well, it's a bit taxing to me. I want to play something other than rock, or metal. There's no market in my town for anything else, though.

As a bassist, I really hope to find people I can jam with, have fun with, and learn with. I want to further my knowledge of my instrument and my music. I want to, and I do, create. Honestly - I love music. I'm not where I want to be, but hopefully I'll get there. In the meantime, I hope that I can find a nice little home hin this forum where I can pick up a few bass exercises, techniques, tips and tricks...the works. Hell, maybe I'll set up my (crappy used) bass correctly.

Right, you guys probably want to know what I play. I play a used ESP B-50, badly set up, through a Behringer BX3000T head with a Hartke TP410 cab. The amp and head i got at a pawn shop. Judge if you will, but hey, I'm happy. I also use an old Peavey Microbass a friend gave me for free, which has input problems and probably needs a new speaker.

Uh, I guess that's about it. This ran a little long. I should've just said that I'm 20 and black.
