an upright question...

hey everybody. i play electric, upright and tuba (sometimes all three at the same gig)

i'm trying to become more environmentally conscious by trading in my ford exploder, which transports all of my gear wonderfully, for a small hybrid-type car or a car that gets really good mpg.

my first question is has anybody been able to fit an upright bass in a toyota prius? i've seen them driving around - they are hatchbacks and i assume the back seats will fold down...

i'm sure i'll keep my old toyota pickup with camper top for gigs where i'll have to haul the whole setup, but for just cruising around with the upright or a small electric rig, i'm wondering if the prius will work.

or if anybody else has any suggestions on a low mpg vehicle that will transport a bass fiddle. i realize that ford's escape is a hybrid suv, but i'd rather buy a toyota or honda (face it - american cars suck)

Hey, don't know much about what you can fit into those cars, but i'd like to make sure you're aware that the EPA is going to be revising the estimated MPG that the hybrids get and they don't look as appealing as they did. I too have an Explorer (well sorta have, the sucker threw a rod, guess it's really an Exploder now) and that thing is a hog, i went ahead and got a Ford Focus and it's roomy and gets great MPG, Plus it wasn't expensive at all.

after finding the 'what do you guys drive' thread, it looks like people have been able to fit URB's in much smaller cars than a prius...
i'm going to look at a scion, a honda fit, and a toyota yaris.
