Hey all--
I'm a 24-year-old former bassist who's just getting back into the groove. Back in high school I used to play in a band that covered everything from Cream to Green Day to Frank Zappa. I played pretty seriously for about three years, but when I went to college the band broke up, and after about a year of dwindling enthusiasm I put my baby away, only picking her up every six months or so just to remind myself how much I used to love it and how terrible I'd gotten.
Well, about six months ago, my father-in-law (who is the choir director in our church, and also the bassist in the praise band) took a break from playing bass, and I happily sat in. Things were VERY shaky at first, but I slowly got back on track. I learned to sing and play at the same time (sort of, lol!), and pretty soon the bandleader was grooming me to replace him. He even let me take over for a week, leading the band and the service. I at the end of the spring I did take some time off because of the birth of my son, and then we got into the summer months where the praise band doesn't play very often, so I've been back out of it for a while.
Well, last week, the bandleader resigned, and the church is searching for his replacement. I'm applying, and from what I understand I have a great shot at it. So suddenly I find myself woodshedding and researching and sinking myself deeply into the deep end of things once again. I've even already come down with a bad case of G.A.S. (for the Gretsch Thunderjet bass)!
So, that's what's up with me. I'll be around. Nice to meet everyone!
Peace
