Hello, folks, tubehead here!

Basically (if you'll pardon the pun), I'm spoilt for choice. I've been surfing the Net for days now in search of an affordable neck through bass, by which I mean below the £1000 / $2000 mark, and I've arrived at a very short list indeed. To make matters even more restricted, I'm looking at not only neck through but also the fat sound of twin humbuckers which obviously narrows the field even more. All I've found so far are the following; which, if any, would you recommend?

Wesley Europa. Imported from the Far East by Wesley Guitars Ltd. Very attractively priced at just £99, less attractive aesthetically I have to say. But it is neck through, surprisingly enough at this price point, and of course it does have those twin humbuckers ...

Peavey Cirrus BXP 4 string. I've read a lot about this one, but I can't find any info as to the tonewoods of body, neck or even fretboard. It's priced at £329, and whilst the USA version seems to have attracted rave reviews, the Korean made machine I'm thinking of has been given a relatively lukewarm reception. Neck through, double VFL humbuckers blah blah blah - but is it any good, that's the thing? Also the Peavey Grind 4 string.

I would genuinely appreciate any guidance which you may be able to give me, or indeed advice as to any alternative instruments which I may have inadvertently overlooked.

Best wishes,
tubehead

You seriously need to get your hands on a Carvin catalog. I've never played a Wesley but, every Carvin I ever played was a thousand times sweeter than a Peavey, in my opinion of course. The top of the line Carvin Icon is under two grand, and the LB76, my personal favorite, lists around $1200. They are custom made in San Diego, and have to be ordered directly from Carvin. If you want to play one first, there are a couple Carvin stores in SoCal, or you might find a used one hanging on a wall in a music store somewhere, otherwise you just gotta order it sight unseen. They have a ten day unconditional money back guarantee. I have several, including guitars and basses and they are some of my most prized possessions
