I've been a bassist for a long time and I've always thought the bass had a specific role in music. Waymam was a great person but he and too many others like him were frustrated guitarists, pianists, horn players, etc. Take your solo and get back to playing bass I say.

the main function of the bass player is to laying down a fat bottom,deep pocket.. that the mission we have to accomplished..

but bass players can also do the rythmic thing,harmony, percussive, techniques,, etc..

so for me , first is groove n the others come after that..
