Wealth of Information Here

I came across this forum from a search for info on a particular Fender bass amp a few weeks ago. I skimmed through the specifics I was looking for but didn't have time to go much further. Now in the midst of four days off I spent nearly all of Christmas eve and day here beyond the bounds of my imagination in this ultra-comprehensive bass encyclopedia.
I have not played bass for over 20 years and have recently been considering getting back into it because with the economic situation all but killing off my trade (I am a framing contractor specializing in multi-family dwellings) I feel that I have the time and, hopefully, the stamina for it. I am working on scraping up some pro gear and finding somewhere to fit in. It seems that everyone is looking for a bass player in their early twenties. Jeez, I was in my early twenties when I first came to Austin from Wyoming back in '83 to do just that and ended up getting into framing because the reality of playing in a non-punk band in Austin was starvation. There was no way I was going to transform myself into a skinhead to be in a punk band!
Anyway, thank you guys for the priceless info here. I absorbed more bass knowledge in the last two days than in the past five decades. I am new here but not new to internet forums and this one will definitely rival the Corvette forum as my choice of the best. I need to familiarize myself with some of the specifics like why when I tried to reply to a post it said I was not authorized in that area??
Happy Holidays all, Jon
