In short, I'm a music nut with incredibly bad G.A.S., and this seems like an incredibly knowledgeable and informative place. Nice to meet you.

For those who have time for the long-winded description:

I'm an on-the-doorstep-of-29-years-old father of soon-to-be 2 daughters in late May. Music is my life and my first true love (don't mention that to the wife...she knows, but hates to hear it). I've been playing SOMETHING since the earliest days I can remember. Guitar, percussion, saxophone, and piano have been my main sources of musical expression (along with the craziest year-and-a-half journey with a DJ rig you've ever heard about, but that's for another time).

Anyhow, I've always been OBSESSED about the bassline and the bottom end of songs in all styles. When listening to anything from Beethoven to Between the Buried and Me I'm not enjoying it unless the bottom end is thick and prominent in the mix. I'm now interested in picking up a bass and jamming with some guys I played with in the past on weekends to see if it goes anywhere. I'm ready to rock out! But wait...Houston, we have some problems:

Problem 1: No Axe
Problem 2: No Amp
Problem 3: No Technique

Luckily, I have a fridge full of beer and time on my hands after the little one goes to bed, so I'm motivated and ready to get playing. I'm currently researching Spector basses as I've read they're good for the style of music I most enjoy (hard/alt/prog rock), but versatile enough in tone to sound good on just about anything. Looking forward to many hours scouring the Bass, Amps, and Gear for Sale forums!

Hi guys! I just joined and wanted to say hey...

haven't had time to do much browsing/lurking yet, as I was doing research on a bass I am selling when I found you guys. I can't wait to dig in and learn via conversation (or osmosis!)

About Me: I taught myself how to play years ago, but plateaued and my jam sessions became fewer and further between.

About 3 months ago I was sitting at home and decided to break out my gear and clean/set-up a few of my babies. (I had just gotten home from a 4-day weekend spent hanging out with Killing Joke and seeing their 2 NYC and Chicago shows... if any of you have seen one of their live shows, then you will understand the incredible energy that is generated... Due to the universe aligning, over those 4 days I was able to spend some time with Jaz and Youth and it was completely inspiring and just the kick in the butt I needed to start playing again.

I ran right home and set-up my equipment and suddenly I was playing things I couldn't remember being able to play before... So, since then I have been writing music with my boyfriend... and been on a bass FRENZY!!

Nice to meet you all! Thanks for reading!!
