Hey All- Thought I would drop in here and introduce myself.
My story is a little embarrassing. I am kind of an old git to be just starting out on a bass (47)
I have been in the tree business most of my life, not Christmas trees,I'm the idiot with a chainsaw strapped to my arse and swings around in a tree on a rope.
Those days are almost over for two reasons, the economy and I'm just plain sick of doing it.
Now I need a hobby besides emptying a bottle down my neck.
Music is a passion and always has been. I love Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy, his writing/vocals are second to none in my opinion.
I always thought a guy mellowed with age,not in my case.
I grew up in the 70's with Sabbath, Judas Preist,Scorps,Lizzy etc etc.
Then Iron Maiden,Saxon,Motorhead and for some reason I completely skipped the entire decade of the 90's metal.
Now all these years later instead of playing and old Eagles tune I am listening to bands like Opeth,Insomnium,Amon Amarth,Soilwork,Solution .45 and Kalmah.
The melodies these Finnish and Swedish bands crank out is nothing short of stellar.
I am a big guy so a bass is just natural for me. I like big heavy basses,P bass and the RIC 2004 and 01 are cool although not all that heavy. (Big Lemmy fan as well)
I know how the forum-thing works,I will look around a while and not ask a bunch of stupid questions when the answers are most likely found doing a search here.
I am a knife collector and am a Mod at a knife forum.
As like many in the world today I am on a tight budget and am considering the MIM P-Bass.
Oh by the way,I owned a Peavey T-40 back in the 80's but was too busy chasing girls to learn anything...that goes for the bass and life in general
Anyway I do know when a bass feels right or plays nice but that's it. I looked at a MIM P a while back and was very impressed.
I want the Lake Placid Blue with maple,it just really "does-it" for me.
I am considering the P bass because it feels good to me.
The Peavey Grind is cool too but a little light for my taste.
ANY advice would be great and as for an amp I like the Peavey MAX 112 for starters,I have been around long enough to know Peavey puts out a solidly made amp with good clean sound.
Again any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I want to find some CD lessons that are easy because I need to learn from scratch. Anything that has finger exercises and absolute basic beginner stuff is what I need.
Thanks guys/gals,I hope to hang around a while and pick up any ideas for getting started.
