Yet another convert....

Hi All,

Just starting out and finally decided to join TB forum, as it's official, I'm listing bass as another instrument I claim to play.

Didn't even know that much about it, all those years I was striving to be a guitar player. Ironically, I was offered to play it in a new forming band, but ended up on the guitar for that one. The next band, the bass player quit to raise his kids, so as fate would have it, I slid over to his spot to give it a try. Found out I like it as much as playing guitar and now have enough gear and practice under my belt to start to look for others to jam with.

As father time has marched on, I can feel a bit of slowing coming in my guitar fretting hand and as much as I've mostly played rhythm, I'm liking being part of the rhythm section of "the band" as much, if not moreso, than trying to act like a lead guitarist.

I thought the free Ibanez EXSeries bass someone gave me was ready for the graveyard, but after reworking the electronics with all new controls and doing a setup via the four part, Elixer Strings youtube video, it's playing really well and making me glad I didn't just dump it for 50 bucks. Got it hooked up to a Carvin BX500 and Carvin 4x10 cabinet to get me started pumping out the low end, nice and loud.

Hopefully, I'll get to the point of getting a good bass and that'll take me to the next level: member of The Mediocre Bass Players Club in another area of this forum. In the meantime, I'll head over and join the Wisconsin Bassists, as that one's not based on talent, which, at this point of my development as a bassist, is a good thing.

So now on to a new chapter in my musical life and a new forum to hang out in/at.

Talk Bass to ya soon,
Gary
