They want $1,000 for the exact year and model except it's in white with a RW board. I wonder why they are asking so much. |

Actually I don't even recall seeing one with rosewood anywhere, including on the web (EDIT: saw some, most were post-1989). Apart from that specificity I don't know what may be motivating their price.
This being said if I had the opportunity to buy yours, I most probably would

I had to change the origional pickguard because is was cracked in about 4 places. I replaced it with a pickguard that looks exactly like the origional. I ordered it from pickguard heaven. replaced the pickups with EMG's but I kept the origional pickups and I also have the origional case. It has a sunburst matte finish with a maple neck. It has some mojo on it. Would I ever sell it? Not in this lifetime. It has a mellow tone and is easy to play - - a real keeper.
I don't recall getting any wrenches with it or an instruction booklet.

Because it's a retail store and they are going to try to get as much as possible. More power to them if they get it, but G&L pricing is a ways away from hitting that mark.
Check badassbassplayers.com and expired auctions on ebay (as well as the classifieds here) for more realistic pricing. I sold a 1981 L-1000 refin for $550 over the summer. I probably could have gotten $600 if I waited around...then again the economy might have killed it, who knows.

I really don't dig the 'tude, the prices are way too high, they've offered me stupid low money for good trade bait. Consequently, I've never bought anything from there. There are guys I respect who swear by them, but I generally find myself just swearing at them.... |

To the OP...
Some food for thought.....your SB-1 has (like it or not) collector value. That value has been rising steadily for years, and no one knows where it will stop.
Plus, Viking Blue on that generation of SB-1 is kinda rare. I think yours is the first one I've seen. The right party will pay a premium for that thing, trust me.
There's only one way to find its real market value....ebay. You might get a pleasant surprise!
