2000 L2000 issue...HELP

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a beautiful g&l L2000 from 2000. The truss rod is either stuck or maxed out. I have tried to contact G&L through email and via phone and gotten alot of run around. I have a certificate that states 10 year warranty. I have NEVER mistreated this instrument in any way and love it but it needs a neck adjustment and the local luthier does not want to risk breaking the trussrod. Any thoughs? I love this bass, please help!

First- you can try carefully dripping some WD-40 around the end of the truss nut- and if it doesn't move in either direction it is stuck (it is also possible that it will spin but go nowhere, which would mean it is stuck AND the rod is broken somewhere inside!). If it will unscrew but not screw tighter, then it is probably maxed out.

If you bought it new, you are entitled to at least have them look at it under the warranty (the 10 years it only applies to the original owner). In this case if you are having a hard time getting ahold of someone, post a detailed description of your problem on this site:
http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/gldp/index.php3

There are a couple important folks from G&L that keep tabs on that forum (well- at least one for sure!)- I had a problem with a new G&L and posted there when I waited months for a return call from the Service Department. Make sure to mention that you have made several attempts to call and email with no luck. I was in email correspondence with both the VP of G&L and the head of the Service Department within a couple days!

Even if you are not the original owner, you should try posting a description of the problem over there- it may still catch the eyes of someone that can help (though generally that forum seems to cater more towards guitarists, their instruments can suffer from the same problems).

You can call their repair tech up directly and they will arrange everything over the phone. As long as the serial number lines up and it's less than 10 years old you're golden. You need to send the bass directly to california on your dime though to have it repaired. Depending on where you are, that can be more than what the trouble is worth.

A note of caution here:

The 10 year warranty is specifically to the original purchaser, and proof of purchase is required.

Now that we have that out of the way:

G&L is many times REALLY GOOD about covering issues on basses that have changed hands, but it needs to be understood that they aren't required to. If the issue is clearly a problem with materials or workmanship, and the instrument shows no indication of abuse, they will be more likely to pick up the cost. But they don't have to. Each problem instrument is taken on a case-by-case basis and they'll need to inspect it to make any determination.

I'm sorry to hear about the neck issues. However, are you seriously (and publicly) considering filing a fraudulent waranty claim? The original owner is covered. You are not him. Seems cut and dry to me.
