Aftermarket tuners for L2500? (Hipshot?)

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know if there is a direct aftermarket tuner that will fit an L2500? The stock ones are Hipshots, right? will the Hipshot HB-1 fit without any modification? Or, does anyone have a tuner from a G&L sitting around unused that they'd sell me?

Thanks,
Karl

HB-1 should fit, but didn't your L2500 come standard with Hipshots that have the aluminum posts? This is quite handy to deter neck-dive.

Yeah, the posts do appear to be aluminum- is there anywhere to find Hipshots like that, or possibly disassemble the current one and put the aluminum post on the new one? Is that even possible? (I've had some bad luck trying to take apart tuners before, but they were Gotohs...) I guess one normal tuner might not be the end of the world......who knows what minor effect it might have on tone?

Thanks,
Karl

They could be Schallers who made all the G&L tuners for years. Only on rare occasions in the long past did they have Hipshots but recently they went to mainly Hipshot.

At the factory I saw some basses with Schallers and some with Hipshots.

I guessed Hipshot as they look almost identical to the Hipshot HB-1 tuner. Is there a way to tell for sure? I think I saw a post on the Dudepit that said the Schallers were labeld "G&L" and the Hipshots labeled "Hipshot"- is this for sure? Mine are labeled "G&L", and my bass is pretty new (sometime since they started making L2500s with "Tilia" bodys...).

Thanks for the help!
Karl

Yep if they say G&L they are a Schaller. Currently the Hipshots are still stamped " Hipshot".

Hello Karl!
They are Hipshot and they will fit. At present hipshot makes tuners for G&L. I can say this for sure, as I work for Hipshot. If it's just your posts, email or call and ask for some replacments. Good Luck! Bill
