I am going to a couple open mic jams a week and sitting in with the house bassist rig. I take my newly acquired L2500. One guy had a mystery amp with a 1x12 cab. I was really overpowering it and his MIA 70's Jazz sounded nice. At another club the guy had a SWR combo with 2x10's and I could not get a sound I liked out of that rig. Then last nite at yet another club the bassist had a GK 700RB amp and I think a WorkingMan 4x10, my bass sounded kinda muddy to me but he said it sounded good thru FOH. I played his SRay and it sounded very nice to me. I almost always set my G&L passive, neck pup only, bass almost wide open, treble totally flat. It sounds good like that thru my rigs but I've not been happy playing it at some of those jams. I dont like to mess with the amp settings, so I just try to tweak my bass best I can on the spot for the few songs I play. I am still trying to get used to other settings on this bass, besides the same passive setting I am now using. When I go active, just seems to lose that nice thick, thump I get in passive. Guess I need to try some new settings at home to get used to what this bass can do. I sure liked the way that one guys SRay sounded, I traded my SRay 5er off a couple years ago and started thinking maybe I should look for another one and move the G&L on. But I was not crazy about the single pup and what I felt were limited tones on my Sray, so I moved it on. I really like playing my L2500 thru my rig, so I guess thats all that really matters. I may just take my 55-01 or Cirrus to those jams next week and see how they sound. Sign me: Not giving up yet.
