Another SB2 Tone Mod Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a used SB2 with the tone mod, and I guess I'm not sure what does what! I assumed the stacked contols were adding the tone control to one of the volumes, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Part of my "confusion" may stem from the fact that the pots seem to kick in fairly rapidly, so I'm just not sure which control is doing what.
Please help me with my stupidity!!

Hey Gary,

I'm not sure which SB-2 you picked up, but if it's one of my old ones (like the white/tort one) then the controls might be: stacked master volume/j-pickup volume and separate tone. That's my standard setup because it works the way I like - using the J pickup to add texture to the P pickup but at most even, never with the J pickup favored.

Otherwise I'd say you can tap gently on the pickups (on the plastic parts) with something metal (a screwdriver, pair of pliers) to figure out which knobs are volumes for which pickups.
