Anybody here replaced the tuners on their L2500 Tribute?

I just got an L2500 tribute and I love everything about it (even the narrow string spacing) except for the neck dive. I appreciate that the body is small because it reduces weight but this bass is way out of balance.

I'm thinking about replacing the stock tuners with their massive gears (!) with Hipshot Ultralights but I want to make sure it'll make a difference. I've never seen bass tuners with gears this big!! No wonder the neck wants to dive. Understandably I don't want to drop $100 and have the neck dive still there.

Has anybody done this? Replaced the stock tuners with Hipshot Ultralights?

Never done it, but the body on mine is heavy enough not to dive. You could definitely lose some weight in those tuners, but I really like the big gear tuners, personally.

My bass is around 9.5 lbs so the body isn't heavy at all. I really like the big tuners as well, but it's the big posts I like - not the big gears! I was thinking of replacing these big gear tuners with some clover leaf Hipshot Ultralights. I'm pretty sure that would shave off 7+ ounces of weight from the headstock. I just don't know whether it would make enough of a difference to make it worth $100. I don't notice the neck dive that much when it's on the strap but seated it dives like crazy!

I don't have any neck dive problems with my L2500 tribute?

Anyway, when I was looking at replacing the tuners on a 4 string with neck dive problems (Fender MusicMaster) I was told to remove one tuner then try the bass on. That would be about the same as replacing the tuners with Hipshots.

I am not sure how well that would compare to a five string because of the extra tuner.

It might not be anything at all. I'm not sure that it's even enough to make it worth it. part of it, I think, is the added luxury of having upscale tuners on it. Everything else about the bass is high quality.
