Just wondering if anyone has. I actually had mine changed at Rudy's Music in NYC. They put one of their Pensa preamps in it, and kept all the stock wiring. My complaint was that the bass boost was very lackluster, and the teck agreed with me. I have one of the first-run L2500's (s/n under 1000) and I'm sure G&L has revised their electronics since then because I never read about any other complaints. Maybe I got a bad one...
But in any event the preamp Rudy's put in is really awesome. The bass still retains the G&L tone, but they removed the treble-boost option. I only have active/passive switch, series/parallel, and p/u select. Vol, Treb, Bass pots.
In parallel mode, I do feel that it could use some mid-boost in there. Series mode is all balls as is.
Has anyone installed a mid-boost pre in their G&L?

As I'm sure you and your tech know, the standard G&L EQ is cut only. No boost. But it works in passive mode, and that's pretty cool. |

My L2500 is also strung E through C with Thomastic Super Alloys. It's a really cool instrument and speaks with a robust but musical voice.

On the new preamp I'll be keeping the same switch functions, although the whole thing's still being considered. The tech and I have been discussing about getting another pot for pickup panning and change the pickup selector to a split/humbucker/kill switch.
When I go through with this I'll let you know, if you're interested.

It has brought the bass back to life for me. I used to use this bass all the time, but lately i have been favoring my jazz and precision. But I have been having good luck with the combo.
