Asat '95 funky truss rod

Sign in to disble this ad
When I try to adjust the neck on my 95 Asat, the truss rod swings back to where it was before I started turning it
Turning left or right doesn't matter, it always centers itself again. Did I miss something about G&L woodoo ?

Cheers

Nope - no voodoo. Sounds like it's broken at the anchor end. Not an easy or cheap fix.

Find yourself a good luthier (Michael Dolan qualifies) or contact G&L for advice.

I have had two basses do exactly that.

Since they needed so little adjustment over time, the rod basically froze up.

I was able to gently massage it into giving in.

Try heating the nut with a soldering iron, and just continue to apply pressure.

It took me several nights, and was going to give up on both, when they each broke free ! They both work flawlessly now.

Be patient, and persistent !

Mick Markey makes me wonder.....

Does the wrench turn easily, as if there was no tension? Or does it re-center due to tension, kind of like a spring-loaded thing?

Mine had tension, and it would twist just slightly under major pressure, then spring back...

I had to put them down and come back to them several times.

When they finally do break free, it is a joyous event !

I feel for you...hope it works out as well as mine.

yessir, sounds kinda like that huh...?

The soldering iron trick sounds like a reasonable idea; especially when combined with a real penetrant....WD40 is not a real penetrant. I'd only use a very small amount of whatever you might decide on, applied directly into the interior of the bullet; you don't want any of that in the wood.
