ASAT Bass Question

Do any of you know why G&L does not offer a maple/birdseye maple board as an option for their fretless basses. I really, really want an ASAT (have an L-2000 fretted and an L-2500 Tribute fretted) with an unlined maple or birdseye maple board.

There was a fairly recent L2500 on EBay with a fretless maple board a couple of months ago- maybe you ought to call G&L and see if its a possibility (or better yet, have a dealer call)...

Things are looking up. I found a luthier in Iowa (I'm in the Chicago area) that will replace the stock board with what I want for $250 - $350.

So now I've just got to find a good deal on an ASAT (new or used).

Be careful if you do this. Bird's Eye Maple (and all figured maple) has those figures because the wood is diseased. It's softer and less stable than non-figured maple. If you want a fretless fingerboard like this, make sure the luthier coats it with a ton of epoxy or the strings will eat into the fingerboard very quickly.
