ASAT Semi Hollow

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone! I'm a bass player as well as collector.
I'm really into the ASAT semi hollow. Could anyone tell me how does this bass sound like?
The dealer told me rosewood fingerboard made the semi hollow warmer! However, I would love to have an maple fingerboard for this semi hollow bass.
How is the range of sound of ASAT semi hollow? Could it be played for metal and funk?
Pls give me your advice.Tks

The ASAT has the same pickups, preamp, and controls as the L2000.
Pretty aggressive, and pretty versatile.
The semi-hollow construction does not impact tone much, in my opinion.
Yes, it would be suitable for both metal, and funk.

Nice webpages you have copbass; welcome to talkbass.

I gigged this cherryburst a fair bit in '07. It had a helluva bottom end on it. Through the Nexo rig up loud it could rearrange your internal organs and always got a lot of comments about how good it looked and sounded. they;re great basses!

cheers

Couple of guys on another forum did side by side comparisons and didnt notice any difference worth mentioning but I did with mine. not a huge difference but noticeable

A/B'ing them I thought the semi hollow had more bottom end and was warmer sounding than the solid body which sounded compressed/tighter in comparison. Neither was better

the semi hollow wasnt lacking whether played with fingers, thumb or a pick.

cheers

Have you experienced feedback issues with the semi-hollow?

I no longer have the semi hollow but during the time I had it and used it out,I had no feedback or any other issues with the bass at all.

The gold solid body Asat caused me a few problems though. The pickups were microphonic when the volume was full on. I ended up using the semi hollow out live because of this until I fixed the problem only after following advice here by bunging foam into the p/up springs.
cured it straight away. I then went back to the solid body Asat because I preferred the tummy cut and how the bass felt like it was pulled in a little closer when standing
