ASAT Semi-Hollow question

Sign in to disble this ad
I would like to hear from all of you G&L owners and players out there.

What does the ASAT Semi model weigh in comparison to the L-2000?

Locals seem like they have never heard of G&L so I have no where to check them out and need your help!!

I find the ASAT pretty light as far as basses go. But I was pretty used to an L1000, which is pretty heavy.

I have both, and I must say the weight factor is minimal. I would say they're about the same. I'd owned an L2000 for about 7 years before I bought the ASAT semi hollow and the thing I found most disturbing rather is the balance of the ASAT: it falls horizontally if you don't hold it so you find yourself gripping the bass permanently for it not to slide down.

The other thing is the 5mm difference between both necks, the ASAt being wider. It was my intention to buy an ASAT with an L2000 neck but it never worked out. (maybe it is possible though)

Lastly I find the ASAT less sensitive than the L2000 sound wise when it comes to fiddling with all the little knobs and switches.

I would recommend the L2000 which I find more versatile. And once more the weight is not a factor I think.

Hope i helped you.

I'll give ya some actual numbers. Choosing a semi to save weight is pretty much futile. Of the 3 semis to pass thru here....

9 3/4 lbs
9 1/2 lbs
9 lbs, 3 oz

The standard neck for the ASAT was the #6, which is a 1.5" jazz neck. The #8 jazz neck may be standard these days, dunno. Either way, the ASAT neck is not wider than an L-2000 neck.

All ASAT's are all neck heavy due to the strap pin location, semis and solids.

The semi adds a little bit of woody-ness to the tone, so mission accomplished I guess.

Thanks for the information, it has helped to rule out the semi hollow for me.
