ASAT vs. L-2000

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Everyone, This isn't an urgent request, since it will probably be a while before I can afford one or anything.

Anyways I got an L-2000 Tribute in a trade and have been looking around, because I absolutly Love this bass, and the sound. Anyways, looking i love the body of the ASAT (I've always been a sucker for a Tele body) So what I was wondering is if there was any tonal difference in the L-2000 and The ASAT

Virtually none. The US L2000 and ASAT share same electronics. bridge, tuners, etc. The only real difference is the default neck (though both can be ordered with 4 different neck options) and the body shape. The Tribs are said to be tonally similar if not the exact same and the US models.

the difference between an L-2000 and an ASAT:

neck dive. the longer upper horn on the L-2000 allows it to hang better. an ASAT with basically no upper horn tends to dive.

no other differences. i like ASATs because of the shape and i like to think of myself as Keith Richards on bass.

I can't keep my eyes off this thing! The binding and the painted headstock are killin' me. White binding might also be killer, might have to Photoshop it to find out.

This bass may just cause me to buy my first 4-banger in over 13 years...

Awesome bass.

But why does it have 2 strap buttons on the end?

It's a stock feature from G&L to combat the neck dive those are prone to with short upper horn.

That being said I wouldn't trade mine for the world!

So there's one strap button for those who don't want neck dive, and another one for those that prefer it?

OK I did it - the first 4-banger purchase in 13+ years. It's like this one but with white binding and a natural headstock. A painted headstock would have rocked, but what's the likelihood of finding one on the used market anytime soon? Close enough. Photos forthcoming...

I think its more of a "whatever is more comfortable for you" type deal.

Some folks are bothered more by the perceived neck dive than others.

Okay . . . Why not turn this thread into an ASAT love fest!

The neck on my lovely lady is not as flamed as loendmaestro's but it is sweet none the less.

vroc38, A wide strap with suede or other high friction lining will help with the minor neck dive. You will love it!

My ASAT is much loved.Incredibly light on the shoulder and the perfect bass for the INXS tribute band I got the gig with a couple of weeks back (I bleeb Gary Beers was a big G&L user ) turns out one of the guitarists plays a cherryburst ASAT Custom 6 stringer.Right on!

Don't forget the fact that there is no body or arm contour for comfort. That can be big. Especially if you don't know about it and then order it.

Ahhhh, but there is the all important "belly cut". Good for thirty-something beer drinkers like myself.

Hmm, I thought that that was missing also. I stand corrected.
