ASAT vs L2000 vs SB-1

Please give me some comparisons. Simpler & vintage sound is more important to me.

SB-1

I like simplicity too. Love my SB-1.

Just one man's opinion.

The SB-1 is as simple as it gets. The JB-2 is essentially the ultimate passive J-bass refinement. Only when you venture into the land of the MFD humbucker do you get complicated, and the one thing that I dislike about G&L's is the lack of a dedicated tools-free battery compartment door. That's probably why I play a JB-2, though I do covet an ASAT semi-hollow.

Sound-wise, an ASAT and L-2000 are going to be virtually identical except for the smallest variations from individual instrument to individual instrument. I have an ASAT and an L-2500 and love them both. Super flexible tone variation on both. An L-2000 will have better player ergonomics than an ASAT. (Sorry fellow ASAT lovers. It must be said.)

Peace . . .

I have a Tribute l2500 and a jb 2 they both sound great. The sb 2 is a slappers dream come true also an excellent jazz bass. I have the one from Indonesia I know cheap you say I've been playing for 30 years and quality price it's just unbeatable. No as for the sb 2 this bass rocks. Mine is a honey amber finish showing the woodgrain. Simple v/v. If you want some tone dial in the bridge pup. I prefer using the split pup, awesome geezer butler tone out of lthis pick up. Again the choice of strings is very important with this bass it tends to be a bit twangy so I would recommend some sort of half round type of string of plain flatwounds.

Ergonomics:

L-2000 has a better body, ASAT a better neck, SB-1 is similar to the L-2000

Tone:

L-2000 & ASAT will have far more tonal options than an SB-1, which is a P-bass set to "12". They can all do vintage vibe to beat the band, but the active basses can do modern sounds when needed.

Simplicity:

L-2000 & ASAT are not a plug & play type of deal. However, once you are familiar with the controls it is very quick & easy to get the sound you want. Basses don't get any easier to use than an SB-1.

Nice one, Pete. I'd take a rosewood-necked JB-2 in the same finish tho'.

I love my maple-necked tobacco-burst SB-2. I think it helps with the clarity and can really "crack" in a rock setting.

I swear I have that same bass. Bought about a year and a half ago from Gtr Adoptions. Ash, honeyburst, maple g.o.t. neck.

If it's anywhere close to as gorgeous as mine is, you won't regret the choice.

And yeah, I've got a rosewood board on my older 3-bolt SB-2 and the attack is quite different--mellower and darker.

Of course, I wouldn't part with either of them.

It's a common but breathtaking combo for sure.
