Sign in to disble this ad
i already posted this in the effects forum, but i thought about it ,and maybe you guys might know the answer better so hear goes:
i want to buy a pre amp pedal for my G&L L2500, i want to run the bass in passive mode and use an out board pre amp to give it a new tone and also to run direct at times when i dont want to lug my amp around, anyway as you might know the G&L has really hot pickups, so I lowered them to chill them out a bit, and it worked great, but i am not that thrilled with the G&L pre amp, so i want to use a di box that has a pre in it, like a aguilar tone hammer or a sans amp bass driver di, which do you guys think would work best with a bass that is really loud and hot already, i play allot rock,u2'ish style stuff, and some R&B and gospel, i am all over the map musically, and i love modern tones like the stringray for example, could you guys advise me on what might be a good match for me?

I havn't used it in a long time, so I kind of cant remember why I quit using it .
But it's a really nice unit that can get lots of neat sounds, in fact it did way more stuff than I could use.
line 6 just makes superb quality stuff in general and the pods are really neat.....
They're a little pricey, but they're also cheaper than a typical bass preamp by a fair bit....

LS | actually its funny you mention that, i was thinking of buying a pre amp pedal, then the line 6 floor pod x3 live, but i have heard that the new x3 from line 6 has good sounding pre amp emulation in it already, and i read that they improved the tones and converters in the x3 model, and that it sounds more warm now and not as sterile as some claim that line 6 pods can be, is this true? anyway basically my dream is to have 3 pedals: a pre amp pedal like the tone hammer or sans amp etc..., the line 6 floor pod x3 live and a BBE sonic stomp, i already have the BBE and love it, anyway thanks for your reply, if any one else has any ideas please let me know, and as always you all rock!!!!!!

Sounds like you may want more additional effects as well, but I've been pleased with this device.

It doesn't have a DI out though, but it's crazy flexible, tru-bypass--a brilliant pre. I won't go anywhere without it and my Radial JDI in my bag--together I feel totally covered. The best thing about it is, your bass still sounds like your passive bass, but you have the extra control and power the pre delivers.
Another option for you would be the Sadowsky pre/DI---I used to use my old belt-clip version of the Sad on my G&L and it sounded totally killer (of course, it gives you the "Sadowsky" sound--a bit scooped, but I found it to be a great compliment to the low-mid heavy MFDs) |

The Para Driver looks pretty cool too, largely b/c of the parametric mids which would be great to fatten up bridge pickup tones.

I was looking at a DHA VT1-EG Bass pedal that looks very cool...L http://www.davehallampsusa.com/dhaus...gain_bass.html |

I also bought a Sans amp VT bass pedal for when i want to rock out and have a svt amped type tone.
Then I bought An mxr 10 band eq, for tweaking my tone even more
so i turn the pedals off and or on depending on the song and what kind of tone i want.
The G&L bass has good tone by itself, but this set up allows me to set my amp eq, and not touch it, and i do all my tone from my pedals instead.

did the sadowsky outboard pre pedal color your tone on the G&L, did it do anything exciting did it give it a more hi-fi sound, or did it sound really transparent.
