Re: Strings for Slappin' on 1K

Thanks for the suggestions. I recently purchased a used 1985 G&L 1K that came with Ernie Ball Roundwounds (55-105). I found them a little difficult to slap so I was looking for something else. I just put on Super Slinkies...much better, but not great. It could be my technique since I just took up the bass only 4 months ago. I'll probably try the DRs next. A guy at GC swore by Blue Steels for slappin'. Anyone ever use these? This same guy, who happens to own a 2500, said that G&L's aren't good for slappin'. Does anyone else share this sentiment? Thanks.

Well, Larry Graham owned an L-2000. Guys at GC seem to have different opinions on gear depending on what they're trying to unload, in my experience.

In terms of design, G&L basses aren't a far cry from Fender (after all, they're just Leo's later innovations) and I've never heard anyone say a Fender is no good for slap.

So yeah, that's a load of bunk. More likely that guy at GC can't slap his way out of a wet paper bag no matter what you hand him.
