Big neck..

ok, i sold my G&L l2000 natural(sue me) it was a great bass sound great, played like lightning, but i had a custom bass in work..

So.. when i have the Custom bass, im gonna start saving up for a big necked bass.(my G&L was a #8, not EXACTLY big..)

so, would the G&L tribute l2000 be a good choice for that? it seems like their necks are fairly big(about same size as fenders 50's reissue p bass) and about the same price)

I love the tone, could anyone give me the thickness at 1. fret?

My Tribute L2K has the same feel as my Fender P 51 RI, with the exceptions that the Tribute neck has a satin finish, is 1-3/4" at the nut instead of 1-5/8" on the P, and the fingerboard radius is 12" (much flatter) than the 7-1/2" on the Fender.

I like big necks, and the Tribute is perfect for me. I could never get along with Jazz-style necks.

Later this morning I'll measure the depth at the I fret, but I'll bet it's pretty close.

The P bass im talking about getting is the '50s Precision bass, wich have 1.75" width at nut. i am think about a neck thickness like 21mm (thats the thickness on my Warwick and also the thickness on the Yamaha Attitude LTD II, wich i think is one of the biggest 4 string necks around(after what i have heard)

they are both in the same price range, and i have no plans of spending more than that on it since its not gonna be a main bass(for that i like skinnier jazz bass type necks), this bass gonna be to develope my stretch... (yeah, i thought of that BEFORE i saw the Jaco DVD )

The US G&L L2000 standard neck (number 7) is a hugeass honkin' piece of wood. I here the tribs are a bit more like a Stingray though the say they are 1.75" on the website (I've never played a trib, just a US and it was a bassball bat).

OK, I measured it...

The L2K has a thickness of 3/4" at the I fret, which is about 19mm. I also measured the nut, which looks closer to 1-11/16" on my rule. I think I got the other figure from G&L's website.

To me, the crown of the P fingerboard interferes with stretches, at least across the strings. The '50's P has the same radius as my 51 RI, which is not as comfortable as the Tribute. The flatter fb on the Tribute makes it very easy to play figures, say, from the E string on a given fret to the D string two frets up.
