Buzz in passive mode.

I believe that questions(s) like this come regularly. I did a search and couldn't find answer to this particular one.

My L2000 Trib is buzzing when in passive, and there is virtually no buzz in active. When I touch strings the buzz reduces somewhat, but it's still there. I did check the grounding wire under the bridge and it's there. Any suggestions.

Another thing, how much different the boost mode comparing to regular active? I may be imagining but on my bass the difference is not that big. A bit more clarity, but that seems to be it.

Cheers

Going to active mode changes the impedance of the bass as the amp sees it. One big difference to us is that we get to run longer cables, usually without an increase in noise. OTOH, if the cable is heading south it's going to act kinda like a noise antenna which may be more apparent when the preamp is out of circuit. Bring the preamp in kind of suppresses the noise because of the impedance change.

So, all other things being OK, have you tried a different cable? How does the jack feel?

The difference between passive & active is perceived as more of a very slight voice change than a gain increase; a little more aggressive sounding. Switching to active with treble boost is a hellacious brightness switch.

You were spot on Sir.
I got a new better quality cable and bass is dead quiet, until I start to play that is.

Thanks
