I'm considering a L2k, but have heard many about they humming like hell. Have G&L correted this problem in the newer stuff??? I don't want to spend a grand on a bass that hum... Thanks!

I just picked up a L2500 Tribute and the preamp does hum a little bit. Might have to open the compartment and see what the grounding looks like. Some copper foil with some adhesive tape will probably take care of it or some paint with graphite fill is another possibility. This is what Ernie Ball does to their stuff.

I don't have any problems with any of mine. For whatever that is worth.

GOOD GRACIOUS!

As for me, I got a roll of copper shielding tape from Stew-Mac and was back up & running hum-free in 15 minutes. To be honest it was only really a problem in two situations: 1.) big local club is known to have the worst wiring around, and 2.) the studio picked up a faint buzz--not terrible, but bad enough to notice when soloed in the mix.

I just got a 2005 ASAT last week and it doesn't buzz at all. It's quite even in active mode.

FidgetStone pretty much answered your question since his 2005 doesn't hum. The newer Tributes may be a good indication of whether the G&L's still hum, so whoever has a later Trib is more qualified to let you know whether it's shielded or not. If my older L2K does hum, then it's something I haven't really noticed. There was some copper paint on the bottom of the cavity, but not a full shielding.

Anyway, shielding ain't that hard to do. If you're going to spend 1200 on a bass then spending a few dollars on shielding tape ain't gonna hurt.
