Yes

Trib quality is outstanding for the price, the electronics are USA equal, the tonality is something you got to decide for yourself. There's no comparison, tonally, between an L2K and those other basses. Read and ye shall find...

You've just described the Trib. L 2000 !

It's a very versatile sounding bass. There's a demo of it here.

L2000 Tribute. Awesome bass. It was my first bass also, and I have no regrets. You get swamp ash, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, Same electronics as USA version, polished nickel hardware, good tuners, etc. It's very solid, and most importantly it sounds awesome.

Thanks for the all the help. If any of you have the Blueburst, how is the finish? I haven't been able to see one in person yet. It looks amazing.

I have blueburst. You wont be disappointed. I kinda like the tobacco sunburst...so maybe I'll get that when I buy the 5 string version(L2500). The finish with any G&L has never been an issue. I have not heard any complaints on the finish of a G&L.

I love my Blueburst. Gorgeous.

With the rest of the family, although the Ibanez is gone now

On it's own. The pics don't do it justice.

"Tealburst" L2000 Tribute

My blueburst is more like a "tealburst". Different and I like it. The bass itself is built much better than it has to be...a very, very solid instrument. Tonal variations are amazing-if you haven't checked out Ed Friedland's review on YouTube...please do so!

Problem I should note for you. The G&L will spoil you for a lot of other basses.

I'm currently looking to add a five-string to my modest collection. Can't find much of anything that matches the sounds I have become used to with my Tribute L2K. Everything just sound limited (at least in my price range.)

Can't get comfortable with the Tribute L25K neck profile, so am forced to consider saving for a USA version with a different neck profile.

I just hope G&L continues to use this power for good and not for evil.

I'm not sure you can get a Trib L2000 for $400 any more-- the current MSLP is $1000, so new ones are selling for around $700. If you can find one at the old price (I think MF has a couple), get a loan and grab it.

One thing that no one seems to point out-- the Trib is the most comfortable bass I have ever played. You don't have to reach for the lower part of the neck like you do on Gibsons or even on Jazz's. Somehow Leo designed it so the neck falls in a very comfortable spot.

What everyone says about the tonal options is true-- you can get a very nice Fender sound that's somehow better than either the Jazz or Precision (it doesn't sound 'exactly' like either).

Used, either cash or via trade will come in under $400. The going rate seems to be ~$350.
