Can't move your bridge saddles back far enough? File the screws down!

I installed a set of Sadowsky flats on my L2500 Tribute and found that the B and E saddles couldn't go back far enough to get the intonation correct. The saddles are solid so there's only so far that the screws can go. I tried filing the screw down so it was shorter and it worked just fine! So far I've had to file off 1/8" from the B saddle screw. I'm going to do a little more and then tackle the E string saddle. I just used some hobby files and a little patience.

That just seems un-natural... one shouldn't have to mod (or maul) a bass to get things in tune.

Another trick I've seen is to use a small piece of metal tubing to add a spacer between the screw head and the bridge.

The USA sets have shorter and longer screws in them. Even if you order a new saddles set they have a mixture.

Lock down the saddle lock good and pull all the intonation screws out and put the shortest over on the B and E side.

All of the screws were the same length. It might just be because of these strings. It's really no big deal for me though because I like tinkering. It gives me a sense of accomplishment to have solved this problem.

It would have made more sense for them to have shorter screws for the E and B saddle if the screw can't come out the front, knowing that the string will have to be longer to have proper intonation.

I didn't think to check if the A, D, and G screws were shorter, I just noticed that the E and B screws were the same.

You would think so, huh? It's all good, though.
