Dead hot rodded Climax; help!

Sign in to disble this ad
The patient: new to me today Climax modded thusly:
Preamp ala tukay is off/on/on with treble boost. Coil tap ala wunkay is single coil/dual coil/single coil with bass boost.
First time outta the box all is well and functioning as it should.
Second time I plug her in, active modes crackles and spits, passive mode is fine. Coil taps still working as intended.
Check the battery; it's fine, but replaced anyway.
Now, active modes are just flat out dead, and passive mode is nasty and distorted sounding. Coil taps still working as intended.

Nuttin looks amiss in the control cavity, but I'm no tech.

Good chip gone bad, or...???

thx for tech tips;
alan

Yank the chip out and try it passive. Should answer the bad chip possibility.

First: Pulled the Climax's chip, and passive went from distorted to clean.
Next,
Pulled the beat, refin'd, but fabulous 1981 L2Ke out, and pulled her chip and chucked it up in the Climax.
That brought the two active modes back to life, but they didn't sound quite right. So, I pulled the chip back out and flipped it in the socket...

Oh yeah....she's back.

So, I wanna buy some chips. I want to move the '81's chip back home, put a new chip in the Climax, and have two spares to put in my ammo box of cables, spares, fuses, preamp tubes, and etc's that travels with me to all my gigs.

If you have a vendor you like, feel free to pm me or something.

Man, if Climax had a "wide load neck," it'd be perfect for me. Alas, it's got one of them skinny lil speed ramp necks.

G&L Really need to build the 1500 series with this particular set of switch mods; it's *awesome.*
