Direct Current Leak?

Sign in to disble this ad
so im about to buy a trib L2k and the owner had it checked out - they found a "direct current leak" and was explained as "when you adjust the tone or volume you get a little static but the static doesn't stay so if you find your tone you won't hear static"

is it a big deal? just looking for objective opinions

thanks

A direct current leak? No.

FWIW, if your bass had a true DC leak, it would go through batteries like crazy and probably not work correctly in active mode.

Static heard when adjusting the volume or tone controls (pots) is NOT a DC leak; it's faulty or dirty pots. Korean made Tributes had a problem with that for a while and G&L happily replaced many a pot on many a bass.

If you are unfamiliar with active basses, be sure to unplug the cable from the bass when not in use. Plugging in a cable switches the instrument on. If the cable is plugged in, the battery is being used whether or not the bass is being played. This is true for any active bass.
