Question Dirty pots or grounding problem on L2500

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I've got an L2500 which I love. However, when turning the volume knob, and to a lesser extent the treble knob, I get a dirty pot type crackling. Thing is, the crackle isn't there when I'm touching the strings or any part of the bass connected to the bridge. I also get the crackle when just touching the top of the volume knob and not touching any other metal part of the bass. Is this just dirty pots, or could it be a grounding issue?

Thanks

Ryan.

Crackling Pots

I've had 3 L2500 Tributes. 2 of the 3 had noisy pots. I cleaned them with professional spray contact cleaner, This worked for a while, then the noise returned. I eventually just ordered the US made pots from G&L . No more noise, better (much) pots. If your 2500 is a US version, maybe just cleaning them will work. I don't believe this problem is a grounding one, but if so, there are many links on this site that address it. Good Luck. These basses are worth a little work to make perfect.
