This is a silly question, I was just wondering how many of you bought your G&L's as new basses, or did you buy them used? I have an L2000 & an ASAT that I bought used, for about half of the new selling price. I absolutely love these basses, but don't know if I could have justified paying the new price.
After seeing that honeyburst SB2 though.....man, I'm tempted!!! |

(my used L2K was everything I wanted in neck size, finish, and electronics package PLUS like-new condition)

The other 11 were all bought used.

That coupled with the neck issues I'm having & the lack of response from the company so far would make me surf the used market exclusively.

Also bought my SB-2 new, but it was a little different- a custom one with all the options I would have chosen...for whatever reason, a store was selling it for less than the price of a new one with no extra options- though it was obviously new/unplayed.
Don't see myself buying another new one though, with all the gems on Ebay (especially early-80s) going for so little comparitively- my 82 L2000e was the best spent money of the 3...

My L-1500 was ordered to my specs, and I bought my SB-2 at a guitar show from a dealer who gave me lots of credit for an old Ibanez guitar. Plus it was perfect spec-wise: vintage white/tort/rosewood. I generally buy new anyway, because good deals can be found, I like to add my own "mojo," and I like warranties. Those have come in handy on my 2003 Fender Am. Ser. Jazz and the L-1500, both of which had necks replaced under warranty. (The Fender's neck twisted, and the G&L had a faulty truss rod.) After those experiences, I'm even less likely to buy used.

| | | | I tried a nice new Honeyburst L2500 at a store and planned on saving up for it. A few months later I found a used Honeyburst L2000 for $500.00 less so I bought it instead. I would not buy a new one, since they are too expensive and their resale price is weak. If I wanted a certain color or neck size, that would be different. I'm not too picky on that stuff.

The other 6 were used, too. At this point I can't see buying one new. With a little patience you can always find what you want on the used market. |

L-2500 USA fretless: New
I got a good deal on both and am completely satisfied. |

| | | | Can't find 'em new in Vancouver. 1 used L2K local, 1 L2K and 1 Trib L2K from evilbay, and now waiting on another L2K from the 'bay. As far as resale goes, the rest of the world is beginning to figure it out, and L2K's, El Toro's, and anything with a 'lawsuit' headstock are beginning to run up. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
