Then I'll ask how much he's willing to pay me so I can justify getting another bass with a more subdued finish... maybe honeyburst or just plain black. |

Would be a nice companion to my Electric Blue/maple/matching headstock L-1500, don't you think?

I woke up with that feeling for several months in a row and finally ended up with a fretless L-2500. I am deliriously happy with the bass. I am about 4 or 5 weeks into it and I will still have an occasional "am I on the D string or the A string?" moment getting used to a 5'er but the bass kills.
Like the ASAT, our soundman loves it. All he does is play with the volume. He doesn't add compression or dink with the tone at all.
DO IT, DO IT, DO IT . . .

First I need to find a new place in the house to stash G&L cases. It's really becoming a problem. |

| | | | Was gassing for a new SB-2 so I ordered one 2 months ago. Gloss natural finish over ash body with maple fretboard and no fret markers. Also will come with generic white pickguard so I can look at it for a while and decide if I want to get a tort P/G or maybe a pearloid or creme colored one from Chandler. So for 2 months I have been very quiet waiting until I call the store where I ordered it from and the sales guys says OOOHHHH maybe 2 more months. WWWHHHAAATTT! Did you forget to order it or something!! now I pissed man ,I can't wait any longer. So I'm thinking as it gets longer it's actually getting shorter Right!! RIGHT!! OK OK I'll wait but I don't have to like it. CRAP.

Karl | Gassin for another SB-2 with a #8 satin neck like my L-2000. Current SB-2 has a #6 gloss neck which feels just a touch beefier.
The #8 on my L-2000 is the best neck I have ever played.

Well maybe a fretless SB-1. I suck on fretless, but I still like to clown around on 'em.
Ya, I want a blank SB-1 in a oddball color. (fat chance!) |

As of last week, I was told it would be another 30 days.
Isn't waiting fun?
I do love my L2K with the number 8 neck so I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

| | | | Hey Mainsail, I traded in my 2004 L-2000 witha #6 neck for the new SB-2 I ordered. I'm gonna miss that neck but I went ahead and ordered the SB-2 with a #8 neck. Never tried one but the way you guys talk about the #8's I can't go wrong - it still is a G&L you know -. Also my bass should be done before yours - yours has 5 strings and mine will only have 4 meaning it takes 1/5th less time to build. Right!! LOL

You will certainly enjoy the number 8 neck. I've played on jazz type necks since I started playing bass in high school, (more than a few years ago) and I've come to be rather spoiled.

| | | | Mainsail, shoot us some pics when the bass arrives, I also have a green swirl SB-1 and clear blue 1980 L-1000. Both have different neck sizes and right now the SB-1 just fits my hand perfect and plays great. Templar mentioned up above he would like to have a fretless SB-1. Not sure if I've ever seen one, do they exist? Oh yeah ,Mainsail do you have any other G&L's?

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: San Diego Ca | | | Other G&Ls The only other G&L I have is my 03 L2K. A number 8 neck and rosewood fb.
Actually, I had an 06 L2K fretless with ebony fb, for about 8 months and sad to say, I just didn't do it justice. I started playing bass on a standup which of course was fretless, back in high school. I thought I could go back to my roots but being the semi-purist I am, after 8 month, my intonation wasn't where I wanted it to be.
I'm playing in our praise band every Sunday and 80 to 90% accuracy isn't enough for me. So as not to cause myself and my bandmates any discomfort, I flipped the fretless for the L-2500 fretted, on order.
Will figure out how to get some pics up.
Larry

I went back down to Veneman's a couple years later during their Anniversary Sale. There, hanging on the wall was a brand-new clear blue ASAT that was in stock for over a year. I walked out with it in a TKL case for $650.
Then, about a year ago I headed over to an old friend's place that was starting to do some studio work out of his home. He mentions something about "Hey, you like G & Ls. Are you interested in this thing?" as he pulls out the cherryburst L2k.
Am I doing something wrong?

There was a deep red L-100 hanging at a store here for at least 5 years. Of course when I finally decided I had to have it, it was gone. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
