Dropping an Audere into an SB-2

Okay, I'm just tinkering with the idea here. Please don't anyone tell me it doesn't need it, or anything like that. I want advice on how to accomplish it should I choose to do it.

I have dual Vol/Tone mod on this bass now. What I'm not happy with about it is the blending of the pups. There's a very small windows where the pickups blend.

I've never owned or used an Audere pre. I have had a U-retro and a J-retro.

I'm looking at an Audere that would give me Volume, buffered blend, and tone. I'm not sure if I will want the active, pasive switch or not. I don't want to drill another hole in the pickguard or anything where else so that I can revert back to stock if I ever choose to.

I've not yet taken the pickguard off to see what kind of space is underneath, but I imagine it will be way too tight for a preamp and battery. No?

Other than that, anyone know of someone who's put an Audere into an SB-2, or any othe pre for that matter?

The tone of this bass really is great. I just don't care for the lackluster blend using dual volume knobs. They seem to function more like a passive blend, giving you little control over the process.

If someone knows another option that might help, I'm all ears. Could it be the load from the cable/amp? Would a Redeemer circuit do anything to help?

You'd best talk direct to Dave Meadows at Audere.
Not usre they do such a thing as "a buffered blend."

I took your advice and did just that. Dave was VERY helpful. Kudos to him on that.

Actually, all their blends are buffered he said, so that would work. He gave me a lot of ideas on different ways I could accomplish what I'm after. I guess I just need to see what it would take in terms of routing the bass to get it done, and if the end result would be worth it just to fix a blend issue.

On another note, here's something else I'm thinking about. I don't miss having a blend on my L-2500. So I wouldn't mind not having that at all on my SB-2 either in some ways. I've never liked having two volume knobs though. It just drives me crazy. I always forget to turn one one or off.

I'm wondering if I could configre the bass to have a single volume, individual tone controls, and a passive blend. Think I could do that with two stacked knobs?

I don't know of anywhere where you can buy a passive blend control on a stacked pot- only active pres have it, but it requires completely different circuitry than a passive blend. The problem being that a passive blend is already essentially a stacked pot (2 reversed pots with wipers attached to the same center shaft).
