El Toro vs L-2000

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone:

I'm a recent discoverer of the virtues of G&L basses. I have a line on an El Toro that seems very nice. However, it's across the country and the shop owner seems to be something of a prick. Plus, I wonder what I'll be missing (if anything) or gaining (if anything) versus the more widely available L-2000.

Please share your smarts on L-2000 versus El Toro versatility, uniqueness, etc.

Many thanks!

the active el toro is a very nice, mean, grindy take on the jazz bass theme.
series pickup switching means it gets really fat too.

the l2000 is more like a twin humbucker precision.

they're very different from each other.

The L2K is much more versatile and has the classic G&L tone. The ET does provide versatility but IMO you really can't dial out its aggressive nature. The L2K is available with a couple neck options but the ET only has one. That said, the ET neck width somewhere between the two L2K options and very popular with some.

I've had a few El Toro's over the years and thought they were great basses. If I could only have one between the L-2000 and the El Toro, the L-2000 would be a better fit for me. The El Toro sounds good though; I like the twin small MFD 'buckers.

Okay, thanks. I will post up photos of ET soon.

Maybe I'll go find an L-2500 Tribute 5'er and sell my Ibanez SR505 since I never really got along with the close string spacing.

The 2500 is a close string spacing 5.
1.75 nut width, or, same as an old school P Bass...

I had an El Toro.
It was cool but I found the pre amp to be a tad noisy in the high end. I'd go with the L-2000.
