Hi.
Im Very intrested in buying a G&L L2000, in fact im gonna do so after my money have returned from a failed Pedulla Rapture Purchase, Now...
Explain Me the possible sound i can get out of this bass..
I Have Heard its supposed to be able to sound dead on anything from a MM Stingray through Various Fenders to a Rickenbacker... I just Wonder, due to the Pickup Configuration, can it do a somewhat Justin Chancellor(Tool) sound and a Geddy Lee(Rush) Presto - Roll the Bones sound(Wal)? |

I personally can't get too close to a regular P bass, but others seem to be able to. It's a fairly agressive bass so you may need to play with your EQ if you want more "old School" traditional tones. All in all, it's one of the most versatile basses out there. |

Now, can they get a Rick, MM, P-bass, J-bass type of tone? With some EQ and switch twiddling, yeah. But, if you're looking for a (insert bass here) sound, get one of those. L-2000's, while, arguably the most versatile instruments out there, can get kinda close, it will never sound just like the other types.
I've been able to get a nice P-style on steroids tone on mine, but have never been able to get a MM tone. I can approximate a J-style tone, but, as I said, witha definite G&L voice... and that's a GOOD thing! |

the reason i asked was becouse i wanted to know how versatile they where.
most important,
it can have a strong punchy tone, thight, but yet mantain some trebble? i have heard they cut like a knife in a band situation, and ill expect this to be true becouse so many reviews have said so. |

Plus, if there's not enough treble for you, the pre-amp has an "Active w/ Treble Boost" setting that has more than enough treble for me. And, yes, a G&L will not be ignored in a live setting. They cut very well! Be sure to post pics when you get yours in! |

Agree with all Phil said.
Do not expect any sound you are used to. The MFD is a whole different animal that responds to everything and will shock you at how much output and fat ass bottom with absolutley no active EQ. I normally run mine passive. The greatest thing is you buy the bass that is all. No replacing pickups, bridges, nothing. You will not make it better just different.
It may take some EQ, pickup height and other tweaking to get the sound you hear in your head but for my money they are the most versatile bass out there. Aggressive, oh yeah MFD pickups are that. Check out the clip of The Iron Maidens playing Aces High and listen to Wanda cut with flatwounds on her SB-2. The SB-2 is totally passive and Wanda's is bone stock. Aces High on youtube

P-bass: neck p/u, series, passive, treble down 1/3 (dead-on the old-school)
J-bass: both p/u, parallel, passive (close, but not perfect)
Rick: both p/u, parallel, active (again, close)
MM: both p/u, series, active, treble down a hair (I can't tell the difference)
G&L cut-through-concrete-walls: both p/u, series, active + treble boost, everything all the way up (a bit harsh solo but perfect growl/crunch in a band)
