How do you get a 3-way series/parallel/singlecoil package? Is that something offered or do you have to do it yourself (or is inside single coil a combination of switches?) I've only had the 2-way parallel/series and the 3-way pickup selector.

Too true. Acoustically, the difference in sound is pronounced on these two basses, and I attribute that to the Ebony vs. Rosewood mostly and Ash vs. Maple/Alder(?) second. While my two basses do back each other up very well, if I was being really picky I'd say the L-1505 sound is more "throaty" and my L-2500 is more "gutsy". That sound does translate through the electronics, but I don't want to overstate that and make it seem like the difference would be huge for most people ... it is a nuance .. and I don't know if fretted ebony G&L's are plentiful anyway, I've only seen a few. (I personally prefer rosewood anyway).

It is always going to come down to the two specific instruments in question ... something I should have said before talking about the differences and similarities in my basses. (EDIT: Which also implies you could end up with two different sounding L-2500s)

If you buy a 3-way 0n-on-on 4PDT for about $20 from various places, you can replace the series / parallel switch and get three positions. There is a wiring diagram in the link in the mods area at the top of this forum.

Well, here's the OP with an update:

L2500 fretted blueburst/rosewood,
L2500 fretted black/rosewood (incoming on 12/1),
SB-2 fretted black/maple/black (incoming on 11/27)

All USA, all wearing flats...I think I'm now officially a GnLcoholic!

It's my understanding that this is an unofficial option.
