Hey Guys,
Yes I still have my Clear Red L2K custom. Wow! I've had it since April. This thing is a GAS survivor I tell ya!.
Do any of you use Gallien Krueger amps? What are your settings?
I'm using a GK 400RB IV with a Dr. Bass Rx210 cab. I'm not sure if I'm digging this combination though. I've never had a 2x10 before.
I'm using my L2k with both pickups in parallel, treble at about 75-80% and bass around 60-70%. My amp settings are volume(gain) at 10 or 11 o'clock, contour at 9 or10 o'clock, presence off, treble at noon, high mids at noon, low mids at 11 o'clock and bass slightly boosted a 1 and the boost knob at noon. The tweeter on my cab is backed off a bit. This gives me a nice "twinkly" fingerstyle tone.

As you can see, I turned the bass EQ down a little, due to the split-coil's massive low end. (And I typically use the split-coil only, with the volume dimed.) I sometimes cut the treble EQ slightly too, to mimic a "normal" bass's passive tone control. Sometimes the "boost" will be higher for more growl.
With my L-1500, it's different. I'll cut the high mids, and boost the bass and low mids a little, though an Aphex Bass Xciter pedal can allow me to leave the EQ flat.

That's the first time I played it with this particular group. I started out with the eq at 12:00 for everything. I try to keep the vol (pre gain) below 11:00, because I don't like the GK pre's clipping/distorting.... sounds very shrill to me. The woofer was at about noon, the tweeter was at 10:00, and the boost at 2:00 (I love that bit of grunt when you dig in..... with the tube sim mode on the EBS MultiComp, it sounds a lot like my B15). Once we got going, I boosted up the low mid a touch, and backed off the highs and lows a touch. Contour was nil, and the presence at about 11:00. I also keep the string filter set at 5 string.
I used mostly the neck pup, with the vol treb and bass all at about 60-70%, series and passive.
Normally, I play my SB1 with them. With that, I tend to keep the eq set at noon for everything. I'll roll my vol and tone down on the bass to about 60%. The last few times that I've used the SB2, I roll the vol down to about 40% on the neck pup, and the bridge pup up to about 20%..... amp eq set at noon.

Are you getting overdrive with that setting? I know the bigger RB's have more headroom but my 400RB IV would be in distortion zone with that setting!

Brent | No, I keep it out of the distortion zone. It does look a little high in the photo, but it's usually around 1:00, and if I hear the distortion I back off.
With my G&L basses, the -14db pad is engaged; not so with the Fenders.

How do you like that 1x12 neo cab? Like I said I can't tell if I like this 2x10 or not I'm used to 15's.

While the RB stuff is not as small as the new MB2, it's still light enough that with the 112, you're only making one trip from car to club/studio. If I need a bit more, then I use the 212.... and if I still need more, then both the 212 and the 112 makes for a seriously loud rig. I don't even break a sweat moving the whole thing.
Very cool.

With compression for extra headroom, it gets incredibly loud. I have a second Neo112 for when I would have used my 4x10 before, but I haven't needed it yet.
The tone is outstanding too, whether on stage or miked up in the studio. It provides thickness, clarity, and enormous flexibility with the powerful EQ and full-range cab. This rig is especially well-voiced for Jazz basses IMO, but it's great with Precisions and the SB-2 as well. I have a little trouble in some rooms with the L-1500, because the Neo112 accentuates the 1500's pronounced upper mids. It can seem thin and "honky." So it sometimes needs tweaking, but the easiest approach is the Aphex Bass Xciter, which evens out the response and provides incredible results.
