G&L L2500 Pickup Pole Height

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey All,

I have a question about the variable height poles on my L2500 (US model, from ~2004 or early 2005). Since the pole heights are variable, does it make sense to have the pole heights match the fretboard radius (so the distance between the pole & the string is the same for every string)?

Would this produce a more even sound, string to string? Would I get the same results if all the poles were flush with the top of the pickup? Does anyone else match the pole heights with the strings?

I am playing my G&L exclusively now, and since I will be doing a setup on it in the next couple of weeks, I wanted to make sure I covered everything I could in that time.

Thanks in advance!

The G&L website FAQ has a great setup guide there.
I don't mess with matching pole height to f/b radius unless there are audible problems.
G&L pups are generally so dang hot that that's not been an issue for me on the big MFD humbucker equipped models like 1000, 2000, 2500.

On the older JJ SB2's, I do go to the trouble to match them up.

There is a hole in the center of each pole which actually is a slot for a hex wrench. With that, you can just screw them up or down relative to the pickup itself.

Maybe not since the pickups are made in Fullerton. Get a metric and SAE allen set and you will be all fine.

FWIW on the USA it is the same wrench for saddles and poles.
