G&L MFD Pickup - Possible to Rewind???

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got one of these in an L1500 bass that is defective - I understand that only one of thw two coils is working. The pickup is also coated in epoxy like the old stingray pups.

Is it possible to have it rewound?

I phoned Bare Knuckle Pickups and they said they had'nt done one before but send it in and they will see what they can do.

Before I do this I just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience with a defective MFD pup and how they solved the problem.

Thanks

the single coil Jazz pickup on my SB2 was dead when i got it, did some research and it would have cost me a lot to rewind so i waited and got on on ebay for 45 dollars shipped...
I live in the UK though so if your in the states its maybe easier to get it rewound!

I had one coil of my neck L2000e pickup redone by Lindy Fralin, and had no problems. I called to check with them first, and they didn't anticiapte any problems.

Hmmm, it would be an interesting project to take the bridge pickup from a current SB-2 and rewind it to the spec of the first-gen (JJ) SB-2 bridge pickup.

You can get a new MFD either directly from G&L (they have them in their online store although I don't know about shipping to the UK) or from any G&L dealer. That might be cheaper than rewinding (I've never had a pickup rewound so I have no idea of the actual cost although it seems like a labor-intensive thing to me).
