I've read about he rumors, and sadly enough it seems I am a victim of a weak G&L neck.
I have an ASAT that's about 2 years old. Birds eye maple fretboard, GOT neck -- and dammit that neck just keeps bowing out. I've taken it to my luthier like three times & he's getting a little frustrated too. I left it there today & he's gonna give it some time & do some work on it. Hopefully we won't have to go down the "warranty route".
Man, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bass & really don't want to have to replace the neck...especially since they don't do birds eye anymore.
Anybody else have any G&L bass neck issues?

Are they still doing the 10 year warranty? Might be worth contacting G&L about a replacement.
Sorry to hear about it though.

Last year, G&L changed its bass neck and truss rod design, I believe in part to reduce the frequency of this problem. I don't know how G&L fares relative to other manufacturers in this respect.

| | | | I bought a used L2000 (a '95) and I cannot get any relief on the neck. Luckily it is straight and plays well.

| | | | Well, a funny thing happened yesterday. I pulled out my G&L L-2000 mentioned above and now there is relief in the neck, enough I had to tighten the trussrod nut to get it flatter! Who says prayer doesn't work!!

| | | | I got the same problem with my sb-2. It have the birds eye maple neck and rosewood fret board. If it bows anymore, I can turn it into a bow for hunting. But there's no complaint since I got it half the price of a used sb-2.

| | | | My '86 had a ski-jump on the heel that took a partial re-fret and planing of the fingerboard to get rid of-a scary venture, considering that the bass had a round-lam fingerboard, not much rosewood to work with-, and even still, that thing would hump up whenever the bass got cold. The current owner uses Fender flats, so he doesn't worry about it too much, and as he says, the bass sounds so farkin' good that it just doesn't matter about the last three frets on the neck.
I have been out of the G&L loop for a bit, what is this re-design of the neck and truss rod system that you speak of?

If you go to "features" on G&L's site, and scroll down to "non-compression truss rod," you'll get a description. G&L has abandoned Leo's bi-cut necks in favor of this new approach.

| | | | Interesting. What that sounds like is a dual-expanding rod, where the top rod bears the tension and the bottom rod increases/ decreases tension, a tried and true design still used by many companies, including Rickenbacker who use two per neck. My '99 L:2K received one, courtesy of Paul Iverson in Vancouver after the truss rod nut broke. Good thing that Paul is a friend, cuz replacing a rod in a bi-cut neck is one FUUUUUUUGGGGLLLYY job. That bass ended up going to Denmark- hope the new owner knows what he has, great bass, never shoulda sold that one. Of course, that goes for all the G&L's I've owned, even the Trib.....
