G&L people: I hate you! (JK)

Just when I thought I was finished with my gas, you gave me more. So I've played EBMM's for a while and I love my Bongo and my Sterling. I've also recently wandered into Warwick for that rock growl. I sort of blew G&L off because I thought it was too Fender-ish.

But I was at GC and see this used Tribute L-2000 on the rack for an OK price. It's really grimey, but in pretty good condition. I bring it home and give it a good overhaul. It sounded really nice through my Markbass rig solo when I was testing it out at home.

But then the guys come over for a full on practice and I pump up the volume. Damn, that thing bloomed! It sounded incredible. I am embarrassed to say this, but it sounded like what I envisioned the perfect uber-Fender to sound like. But I've given up on Fender (even the US ones) cause I think the QC stinks.

Now I am on a quest for an L-2000 with a Jazz neck. I guess I gotta fork out the cash for a US model. I fart in your general direction, but thank you very much.

My G&L is the best bass I have ever owned. In all fairness I have only ever owned 3, my Westone Thunder, a MIM Jazz and now this G&L L2000. I still love it though.

You can also check out a Tribute SB-2. It is like an "uber P-bass" (to use your terminology!), but comes stock with a Jazz profile neck. If you dig growl, then the SB-2 should definitely float your boat!

just wait...

Wait 'til you try a vintage L-2000e - if you get a good one, it will blow your doors off -- in a good way, of course.

I have owned them all, and I flat stuck on G&L. There is nothing that competes, really. nothing sounds quite as good on stage.

Actually if you know someone in Japan you have the option of getting the Japan-only slim neck L-2000 Custom Tribute which is basically a tribute 2K with a jazz neck, a "slim neck" logo on the headstock and costs about $80 more than the standard tribute 2K iirc.

But then again importing it will make it too expensive to be interesting I suppose so I'd look for a used US 2K with jazz neck.

...and that bass is my current GAS too:

i've got a fender aerodyne and mm sterling HH that don't get played! the necks on those seem like toothpicks!

It took me a little while to find this one, but it's on it's way as my birthday gift to me Gotta pull some overtime for this.

It's swamp ash, 8.75 lbs, #8 neck.

I'm really excited. Did I do OK?

Of course, right after I buy a new one, a used one shows up on the 'Bay.

Just thought I'd pass this on to anyone interested:

L-2000 #8 neck

I'm gonna justify my purchase by saying I like rosewood necks better and the one I bought is probably lighter.

I've owned Gibson, Rick, Fender, Greco (my first). Nothing compares to my G&L L2000 Leo Fender Signature. Wouldn't get rid of it for any reason.

Yes, I know what GASing for G&L is. I'm getting a L2500 in 2-3 months (if I can wait that long) when they arrive to my local shop. I've already become a G&L preacher even before I got mine!!

G&L are great band basses. I start in a new band this week and my SB-2 is the bass going with me to first practice

and the As much as I love MM Sterlings I had to get rid of mine in my last band when it was just getting lost in the mix with everything going (weak G in particular). The Asat bass, passive or active could always be heard and sat just great.

Even us old-schoolers who dislike the lack of quick battery changes on G&L (a la Warwick, MM and the Fender J24) and thus like our G&Ls passive can jump in here. My Tribby JB-2 is my #1 player, and I say this an a limited edition 'wick owner. The 'wick blows the Tribby away, but isn't what I am gonna grab when I get that last minute call, or have to cover a regular bar gig. The 'wick only comes out for recording and special gigs. My Trib JB-2 is still completely stock (save for strap locks) and I want to get an American-made one(with better tuners; there is not a Hipshot Xtender that truly matches up to the Trib tuners, and if I am only gonna have 21 frets, then I want a little more low range). Aside from the office Christmas party last week, the Fender J24, while also a really great player and sounder, is rapidly becoming superfluous, and might become part of the American JB-2 acquisition scenario as trade bait.
