G&L Tribute Basses, The L-2000 Question..

Sign in to disble this ad
All I have heard about G&L's tribute series is that there great for the money, good American PuP's. BUT, on the G&L site they have the L2000 in two different woods it says Swamp Ash (for the transparent finishes) and Basswood (for the black finish).

Now my question is....Is the whole body Swamp Ash, or is it Swamp Ash on top of Basswood.

And what different sounds could I get out of the bass (Like different companies sounds, Example: Fender P-Bass, Jazz Bass, Music Man, ect)

Pics and reviews on this bass are highly appretiated.

There are no caps on the current Tribute basses. They're either solid ash or solid basswood.

Watch & listen to the video. You will be able to get close to other basses in tone, but you will not cop their tone exactly. Pickups are different, pickup placement is different, electronics are different, bridges are different. A Fender is a Fender, a MusicMan is a MusicMan, and a G&L is, thankfully, a G&L.

Be sure to thank John after you buy one.

The L-2000 is very similar. It has all of the same tonal options, and I think it uses the same parts as well. I know all of the electronics and the tuners are exactly the same, but I suppose different assembly and the body is made in Indonesia. There aren't any custom options either.

But assuming you don't care about that, you're getting an amazing bass for roughly half of the price of a G&L.
