G&L vs Lakland

G&L American Made basses = same price as Lakland imports. Are they really worth it? A good friend of mine thinks so.. I don't get it!!

I'll take an American G&L over an American Lakland straight up, forget the imports.

Me too.
Not saying the Laklands are bad, just not for me. BTW I owned a Skyline 55-01 and flipped it in less than 2 weeks.

I always thought that American Laklands were incredibly expensive. especially when comparing them to their Skyline brethren. And if I can get a custom made US G&L made to my specs for a lot cheaper, why bother? (Actually, I think this with a lot of the "high end" boutique basses.)

Couple years back I had a chance to buy either a Lakland USA (expensive) or a Tobias Killer-B (less expensive) but with the same Bartolini Soap Bars. The Bee remains a favorite for me and was an excellent bass for the money. My L2K has been an excellent bass for the money as well. I know the Laklands are well made, BUT never understood the inflated prices.

I have two Lak Skylines: they both are of exemplary builr quality.
55-02; nice enough bass. Plays great, soiunds great; not "stunning," but great.
Skyline Hollowbody: I have no idea how they get this build quality and performance at that price. Just stunning.

I find the two Skylines I have on a par with G&L USA stuff.
Maybe that makes me a heretic, but I'm really discriminating-and a G&L zealot...I have 12 right now.

Just because you find the same quality in another brand doesn't make you a heretic in my book. Now if you said that a Rogue were of the same quality as a U.S. G&L I might start questioning you a bit more.

I've always been really knocked out by the Lakland USA stuff. Especially the cherryburst over quilted tops.
