Gain on new L-2000

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I ordered a new US L-2000 just a bit ago. It just got in yesterday, and is it a beauty! After playing it for a bit, I have a question for everyone. Is there a way to tame its gain?

I do a fair amount of switching instruments at my gigs, and the L-2000 is literally five times hotter than my other basses. The others are a Stingray and a Precision, and both are about the same volume. I don't want to have to redo all of my settings after every switch. Also, the sound guy will shoot me. Is there a way to lower the instrument's overall gain, or must I lower the pickups?

Thanks!

Learn the 2K controls and you may not have to switch basses.

Run it parallel and roll the volume back.

This'll fix it, albeit at a price ...

The volume control on the L2K will do this nicely.

Gain,2500

I've found the controls on the 2500, ASAT and 1505 to be extremely versatile and responsive. I think that a lot of the best sounds are found by CUTTING volume and tone, with the result that you have a lot more headroom when you need it. It's a learning curve, but well worth it in the end. Barring that, I'm fortunate to have an input in my Mesa 400+ designed for active basses. All my G&l's love it.(They ROAR in the non-preamp input) Maybe one of our resident tech gurus could suggest a padding formula or outboard device. Good Luck

+1 for the ToneBone BassBone. I use it on stage for both my G&L's, completely transparent if you run the EQ's flat, and it has a great DI and if you run the boost turned down, the boost switch will perform as a mute so you can run a tuner off the tuner out and do silent tuning.

Tonebone

This thing looks like a great box. Thanks, Gents. Anyone else use it? Pros, Cons?

Thanks for all the great replies. Good to know that this is not just my bass!

The Tonebone looks great too, and designed for me. The website even says, "Many bassists today use two instruments, typically with very different levels and sounds eg: a traditional Fender style passive and a 5 string active."

Looks like I've got a new piece of gear to lust after...

The L-2000 (and any active G&L) is not really supposed to be run WFO like you should on a passive bass. In fact, the MFD pickups are pretty hot, and they'll easily overdrive lots of amps inadvertently. But that also gives them their punch.

I have one of the ToneBones and really, it's a pretty cool thing to have. I use it most when I have gigs that call for both EUB and EB. The settings are easy to use and very helpful for taming the EUB.....

For the BDDI junkies (like me), the new Sansamp BDDI Deluxe looks like a cool live tool.

If not mistaken, priced about the same as the Radial?

...But without any midrange control to speak of

Seriously though, if Sansamps are your bag the deluxe looks like a cool box.
