GASSING on G&L

Sign in to disble this ad
Just couldn't make up my mind on a brand new custom axe without giving a #8 neck a try first, SO.... I did the Ebay dance for a cheap new Tribby JB-2. This should be interesting!! My wife's gonna think I really have GAS and then some.

Is the Tribute neck the same as the USA G&L neck?

Maybe not the same workmanship, but the same form and dimensions.

The ones I have tried of the JB-2 and SB-2 were thinner front to back so they felt skinnier than a USA JB-2 or SB-2.

Maybe that will be ok for me as that is what I am ultimately seeking. I hope it plays and sounds good though.

Matt has a couple on hand so if in the neighborhood go lay your hands on them and see what you think.

I'm not a fan of the skinny feeling necks myself.

Is the neck as sculpted as a Lakland neck? I love their bass necks, but so far not a fan of the 44-01 Bart pups. If the JB works well, I'll dump the Lakland.

Me neither, just want to make sure that I like the neck profiles before I plunk down $1,500 on a custom G&L that I will keep for some time.

Its nice to have the USA made but I think, after having bought a USA, maybe the Tribute is the way to go. After all, they sound the same and the neck is skinnier on the Tribby. If you can get one with the options you want, you may be just as happy. Plus if the gass hits you again, which we all assume it will, you won't be losing a ton of cash if you need to unload it to pay for the new whatever you want.

Just a thought.
