GHS Precision Flats on Trib L2500?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anybody using this string strung-through on this bass?

Had Chromes on my Trib L2k and currently have them on my TBC A500M and like them, but wanted a slightly different sound out of my Trib L2.5k (and frankly the price is better on the GHS strings.)

Thoughts on this setup?

Almost forgot, if you are using them...what length do you use?

Thanks

You should know that GHS "Precision Flats" are meant to sound dead from the start. They are nothing but thump. They're supposed to sound three years old. These would be on the opposite side of the flats tonal spectrum from the Chromes you had on them.

I have Sadowsky flats on my Trib L2500. What kind of tone are you looking for?

Tone I am looking for...hmmm... good question.

I think I want something a bit darker than the Chromes, but I don't want to kill all the tonal variation that G&L is known for. A little deeper thunder with more even sound throughout the set.

Had read that GHS makes the Sadowsky flats and that they are essentially the same as the Precision flats. Or maybe it is the Lakland Joe Osborns. Reading too many opinions and getting confused.

I tried Chromes on my L2500 and found them to be too harsh sounding to my ears - too much like rounds. The Sadowsky's toned it down a bit and added more depth. They're price, but I've never played a nicer sounding string. I use them on all my basses.

If you want to string through the bridge you'll need an XL set and you'll need to cut the silk wrap away from the fat part of the b-string to pass it through the hole. The longs will work if you want to top-load.

I think Labella's are a bit darker still.

I like the GHS P/ Flats & currently use them on my ASAT, The bass sounds really good w/flats. A ton of boom & enough highs for my taste.
I'm playing in a little trio thang & the sounds I can get are perfect.
That being said, My other ASAT's are strung w/ Rounds...Grrrrrr.......
